Can 14 carat gold cause allergies?

We exclusively offer 14-karat gold jewelry for piercings. This is because 14-karat gold contains a substantial amount of pure gold while remaining sturdy enough for long-term wear in piercings.

Pure gold is 24-karat but is too soft for piercing jewelry, as high-purity gold easily bends. To strengthen it, other materials are combined with gold, lowering the karat count to 14. This process introduces trace materials, including a very small amount of nickel. While this level of nickel is too low to cause allergic reactions in most cases and is often claimed to be nickel-free, it may still trigger sensitivity in those with existing nickel allergies.

If you already have a nickel allergy, it’s best to avoid 14-karat gold jewelry. Even though nickel is present in minimal amounts (less than 1%), other metals like cobalt or palladium are also added, which may cause reactions in some individuals. However, for most people, if you can comfortably wear gold bracelets, rings, or necklaces, 14-karat gold is generally safe for piercings as well.

What can I use if I suffer from allergies?

No need to worry; we have several options for you!

Two materials are entirely safe for you: titanium and PTFE. Both are 100% nickel-free, making them suitable for new piercings and those with nickel allergies.

However, using a nickel-free material doesn’t mean you can skip general care guidelines for your skin and piercings. Keep your piercings free from lint daily, and if you need to handle them, always ensure your hands, jewelry, and skin are completely clean before inserting or removing jewelry.

How do I clean my piercing jewelry?

To help your piercing jewelry stay beautiful and last longer, follow these steps:

  1. Clean with isotonic saline:

Soak your jewelry in isotonic saline for a few minutes, gently shake it, then let it sit for a few more minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cold water, then allow it to air dry or use a clean cloth. Ensure all saline residue is removed before moving to step three.

  1. Use antibacterial soap to prevent odors:

Rub the jewelry with antibacterial soap, reaching all small crevices. Rinse with cold water. For coated jewelry, let it air dry; avoid paper towels to prevent scratches on the coating.

  1. Polish with a microfiber cloth:

For coated jewelry (like gold), polish gently to avoid wearing down the coating. For non-plated items like solid gold or steel, you can use more pressure to achieve a polished look. Ensure there are no watermarks or residue left behind.

  1. Store properly:

When not in use, store your jewelry in a jewelry box that’s dark, dry, and lined to protect it from scratches.

  1. Most important:

Remove your piercing jewelry when bathing, swimming, exercising, or sweating heavily—just as you would with any other jewelry. This greatly helps preserve its appearance over time.

Problems with my product

My navel piercing is broken!

Navel jewelry can usually break in just three ways. Here’s how and what steps to take.

1) Defective upon receipt
Sometimes, packages endure significant pressure during shipping, which can cause rare cases of jewelry breaking. If this happens, don’t open the sealed bag. Instead, take a clear photo showing the entire unopened bag and the visible damage. Email the picture and your order number to info@igotpiercing.com, and we’ll assist you.

2) Pendant has fallen off.
The small ring that holds the pendant is designed to bend if your jewelry catches on something (like clothing, bedding, or jeans). This safety feature prevents the entire piece from pulling through your navel, avoiding potential injury. Since this is intentional, it’s not covered by warranty. We recommend taking extra care with pendant jewelry to avoid it catching on anything.

3) Bottom ball detached and won’t screw back on.
If your navel jewelry has a stone or a special design at the bottom, it’s often attached with glue. Glued pieces are delicate and can break or detach if exposed to pressure, moisture, high heat, or chemicals, as these weaken the adhesive.

Jewelry can get caught in belts or waistbands, causing the glue to loosen. Remember to treat your navel jewelry carefully, just as you would any other jewelry. We recommend removing it before showering, much like you would with necklaces, large earrings, or bracelets.

If you’ve lost a stone or ball without other damage, read more about how to handle it [here].

I've lost a stone

We’re sorry to hear that!

We strive to provide you with detailed information about each piece of piercing jewelry. Above every product description, there’s a “More Information” tab where you can check if a piece is glued, includes pearls, pendants, or has any other specific features.

Jewelry with glued or attached elements requires more care than regular, unglued jewelry. For instance, glued pieces should not be exposed to moisture, as this can cause the adhesive to dissolve.

No matter the quality, it’s always best to remove jewelry before showering, exercising, swimming, etc. This helps keep it in optimal condition and prolongs its lifespan.

If a stone or pearl detaches while wearing your jewelry, we’re unable to offer a refund or replacement. If your jewelry arrives intact but gets damaged during use, i Got Piercings cannot be held responsible. We thoroughly inspect all products before shipping, and we recommend checking them upon receipt to ensure they are in perfect condition.

I can't untie my piercing ball!

Around 80% of all piercing bars feature two balls that can be unscrewed, each with a threaded attachment.

To unscrew a ball, twist it counter-clockwise with gentle pressure. If it feels too tight, try wearing rubber gloves to improve your grip.

If rubber gloves don’t help, you can try the “freezer trick”: place the jewelry in your freezer for about 20 minutes. Once removed, immediately try unscrewing the ball again with rubber gloves. The cold shock typically loosens the ball just enough to help you unscrew it.

Some jewelry, like those used for nipples or industrial piercings, have only one removable ball; the other side is glued in place. Avoid trying to unscrew both, as forcing the glued end can damage the attachment, making it impossible to reattach.

Similarly, ear studs—especially those for tragus and helix piercings—usually have only one removable ball. The back end, typically a smooth ball, is the part that can be unscrewed, while the front design is glued. Avoid holding the glued front when loosening the back, as this can risk breaking the glued attachment.

I can't open my labret

Labret jewelry comes with different types of clasps, so it’s essential to know which type your labret uses.

We offer the following types:

  • Push-in with PTFE rod
  • Push-in with metal rod
  • External thread
  • Internal thread

For push-in jewelry, simply hold the small ball firmly and pull it straight away from the rod. It should come apart easily. Be aware that some balls/tops are small and may be tricky to grip; in this case, use your fingernails to pull it straight out. Avoid twisting, as this can damage the small pin or rod.

For threaded jewelry, unscrew the ball by turning it counter-clockwise. If it doesn’t come loose right away, don’t force it, as this may cause damage. Try wearing rubber gloves for a better grip; 99% of our customers find this trick works to loosen even tight balls. Alternatively, you can use rubber-coated pliers to avoid scratching the jewelry.

Rest assured, the parts can be unscrewed. Each piece is manufactured separately and then assembled, so it’s just a matter of getting a feel for the motion and turning counter-clockwise.

I have lost a pendant for my piercing!

In the case of a navel piercing with a pendant, you’ll notice that the pendant is held by two rings below the bottom ball of the bar.

One ring is fixed and welded to the base ball, while the other is a connecting ring that attaches the pendant to the navel jewelry. This design is typical for navel piercings with pendants. The smaller connecting ring is intentionally flexible—it’s designed to bend if the pendant gets pulled. This feature protects your navel by allowing the pendant to detach rather than having the entire piece forcefully pulled through your skin. Without this safety ring, you’d risk severe pain and a large wound that could leave permanent scarring.

This is why navel piercings with pendants include a protective ring. If the ring is bent, it’s usually because the pendant has been tugged. This can easily happen, especially when you’re asleep, as the pendant may catch on clothing, bedding, or other items. The same risk applies when drying off with a towel, wearing high-waisted pants, or tight-fitting tops.

If your pendant has detached, there’s no need to worry; it can be reattached easily. As long as the fixed ring remains on the bottom of the jewelry, you can hook the pendant back on and gently reshape the flexible ring with a small pair of pliers.

It’s worth noting that the ring won’t bend on its own—it’s made of metal. If it’s bent or if your pendant has fallen off, it’s almost certainly due to a pull on the ring.

A ball is loose / Will not tighten on the piercing

If you have a threaded ball that won’t fasten properly onto a bar, first ensure that the thread types are compatible. One should have an external thread and the other an internal thread.

Additionally, make sure both parts have the same thread gauge. For example, if you have a 1.2 mm (16g) bar, the balls should also be 1.2 mm.

Be aware that components from different manufacturers may not always fit together, so it’s best to buy spare parts from the same place you purchased the original jewellery.

To help identify where the issue lies, try swapping the parts around. Test the potentially faulty ball on multiple pieces of jewellery. This will help determine if the issue is with the ball’s thread or the bar’s thread. If your bar has two ends, test both ends as well. Systematically eliminate possibilities one at a time.

If the problem persists after checking everything, please send us a video showing the issue. Email it to our support team at info@igotpiercing.com. We need to see the problem to assist you. Be sure to include the video in your initial email, along with a description of what you’ve tested, your order number, and details about the specific item causing the issue.

What size should I use?

Which dermal top fits my dermal anchor?

Matching dermal anchors with compatible jewelry can be a bit tricky.

First, ensure you know the thread thickness of your dermal. Even if it matches the size we sell, issues can still arise since different manufacturers often use slightly different thread spacing and designs.

When you purchase from Bodymod, you receive dermal tops from some of the world’s largest manufacturers, and they are fully compatible with each other and with the anchors we supply to many Danish and international piercers. This means there's a very high chance they’ll fit together. However, please note that there’s no guarantee of compatibility unless all pieces are purchased from the same place.

What size should I use for my tragus piercing?

A tragus piercing is located in the ear, on the small cartilage nub in front of the ear canal.

The most common size for this piercing is a 1.2 mm thread thickness with a length of 6 or 8 mm.

The same sizing applies to rings, except in this case, it’s the diameter that typically measures 6 or 8 mm.
